For so many years, I've only driven past the suburb of Petersham. I have never had the opportunity to just stop by and take in what this suburb has to offer in terms of food. According to food blogs I have read over the years, Petersham is home to many excellent restaurants.
A few days ago, David Jiew of The Ragland Cafe posted a photo of a burger and triple cooked chips from a new cafe called The Pig and Pastry. I decided to venture out and try their breakfast menu. Pig and Pastry is situated right on the corner of West Road and Station Street. I have a soft spot for cafes with an industrial and homey look such as this place. There is so much to love about the space, which includes exposed brickwalls, cute wall shelving fixtures, and small pot plants on wooden tables. Now it's down to the coffee and food!
Caffe Latte
Flat white
They use beans from the Little Marionette (same beans used by a famous cafe in Parramatta) for their coffee. The cafe latte and flat white ($3.50 each) had a medium bodied taste that is easy on the palate and had a nutty finish. It was perfect start to such a scrumptious breakfast.
Bacon and free range eggs roll
Eggs benedict on brioche
Salted choc chip cookie
I also decided to order a salted choc chip cookie (also housemade) for takeaway. The salt activated a nice slight sweet taste to the dark chocolate chips. The cookie was chewy just the way I like it!
The Pig and Pastry is a very nice addition to Petersham. Their coffee is beautiful and the dishes reflect the love that goes into making them. It is another cafe I fell in love with. I will definitely return to try their burger and triple cooked chips for lunch.
