Butter, Surry Hills

They say everything tastes better with butter. Smothered on bread, add it to your mashed potatoes or cook steak with it and the world becomes a happier place. The delicious Surry Hills food scene has gotten a lot tastier with the addition of a hybrid sneakers/fried chicken concept shop called Butter.

Head Chef Julian Cincotta's (ex-Nomad and Rockpool) new joint is an astral plane of hot kicks and fried chicken. The display of limited edition kicks and Wu-Tang symbol on the glass window is super dope too.  For those familiar with the Wu-Tang clan's work will remember that they were all about the C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me). Butter is about a different kind of C.R.E.A.M. In this establishment, it's all about Fried C.R.E.A.M. (Chicken Rules Everthing Around Me). That's my kinda C.R.E.A.M. too. I totally digged the old school hiphop playlist. Here's what my homies and I had when we visited:
Fried chicken sandwich
Slaw
The fried chicken sandwich with a side of slaw ($16) was the first thing I tried and boy it was off the hook! Prior to the visit, Suze warned me of its awesomeness. At first bite, so much precious dashi butter oozed out! Followed by the beautiful crunch of the buttermilk coating and the thick juicy spiced fried thigh fillet was perfectly cooked. The pickle was nice for cutting through all the richness of the sandwich. The lightly toasted soft milk bun was an excellent carrier. No doubt, this is my favourite fried chicken sandwich at the moment.
Laces
Laces is shoestring fries with shitaki spice ($5). Their fries were  perfectly cooked and tasty.
Size 13's
We also tried the size 13's ($60) which is a shoebox of 4 fried chicken thighs, 9 fried chicken tenders with 2 sides of pickles, 2 sides of slaws and 3 sauces. The fried buttermilk chicken were beautifully cooked and even the tenders were so juicy! Cooking tenders perfectly is hard to do. I couldn't decide which one I liked better: the ranch or the smoked aioli. The ranch had a sharp creamy and garlicy taste whilst the smoked aioli had a super smoky garlic flavour. They were both addictive! We also got the OG hot sauce which was quite mild for a hot sauce but had a distinct cayenne pepper-ish flavour.

I also tried one of their slushies. I had the sober watermelon ($7), which was sweet and refreshing. Perfect as a cooling agent and palate cleanser.

They also have soft serves!

The Amsterdam ($5)

Peanut butter pecan ($5)

Word is that you need to book an appointment if you want to check out and purchase sneakers. Their e-store is about to open soon too! Head down here for a great feed of fried chicken. You will not be disappointed! Surry Hills has  become next level tasty thanks to Butter.
