Sydney's cafe scene never ceases to
amaze me. A lot of cafes and small bars have opened in the past year. They all
vary from the hipster type to modern European/Australian type. Kepos Street
Kitchen (KSK) is one cafe that has been on my bucket list since late last year.
A brunch a few weeks back has made way for me to see all the raving reviews
about this place.
Kepos Street Kicthen has been awarded "Best Cafe Food" by Sydney Morning Herald Cafe Guide 2013. It is situated at the end of Kepos
Street (near Phillip Street), Redfern. Upon entering the premises, a sense of
comfort surrounded me. Aside from the warm service, I really liked the chic
industrial with a homey touch type decor it had going. The white walls and big
windows allowed a lot of warm and natural lighting to brighten up the place.
The food is Modern Australian combined with Mediterranean flavours and
influences. The comfort extends to their coffee and food.
homemade lemonade $4.50
|
Cappuccino $3.50 (small)
|
zucchini fritters with dill, smoked
salmon,poachedegg $18
|
strawberry salad, pomegranate pearls,
mint, rosewater yoghurt $13
|
piccolo latte |
The beans used for their coffee is from
The Grounds Alexandria. It was smooth and lighter on the palate. For my piccolo latte ($3.50) I asked for
double ristretto (0.50c extra) to get a stronger flavour and additional body.
Bacon and egg brioche roll |
Their bacon and egg brioche roll (with KSK chilli jam, roasted tomatoes,
and watercress - $13) is one of the best I've had. First of all, they used my
favourite brioche bun, which is from Brasserie Bread. The bun was fluffy and
buttery. The roll had two eggs with runny yolks and slices of crispy bacon that
would make any bacon & egg aficionado weak on their knees. The sweet
flavour and slight kick from the chilli jam took this roll to another level of
excellence.
churros & salted caramel |
The best way to describe their churros & salted caramel ($12) is
awesomeness on a board. The churros were fluffy and flavourful inside. It was
nicely crisped outside. This sugar and cinnamon coated churros went well with
the golden salted caramel.
The items that I got to try from the
breakfast menu easily captivated me. They certainly know how to serve up an
amazing breakfast/brunch. I'm really looking forward to return to KSK to try
their lunch menu.
