Surry Hills is never short of great
cafes. A combination of delicious food and stellar coffee with friendly service
is more than enough for me to enjoy a cafe. It also has to be a place where
both my mind and body are just at ease. All the good qualities I look for in a
cafe is in a new joint in the Surry Hills hood called Devon.
Simon - Devon Cafe's rockstar barista |
It is a humble cafe that is located on
Devonshire Street in Surry Hills (only a few minutes walk from Central Station).
Having read so many good reviews about this place, I just had to plan a visit.
The space is chic with a minimalist approach. Devon is the kind of place where
you'll feel a sense of delight soon as you enter the premises. My senses got
this one right!
Cappuccino |
Flat white |
I was excited to know that they use
Coffee Alchemy beans for their coffee! My skinny
flat white ($3.50) had a double ristretto shot of the Galileo blend.
It had a full body with notes of chocolate and nutty flavour that punches
through the milk. The milk had perfect temperature and thin velvety foam.
BELT Brioche |
The B.E.L.T
brioche ($9) was another hit! It had bacon, egg, lettuce
and tomato (hence the name) with some sublime aioli! The brioche bun
from Victoire bakery was fluffy, buttery and holds the whole sandwich together
well. The sandwich can use a little bit more bacon but nevertheless, it was
overall awesome!
Little lost bread (PB&J brioche French toast) |
The little
lost bread ($16) is both comforting and luscious. It's a peanut butter and
jam brioche French toast with warm banana, jam, nutella and peanut butter
ice cream. It is rich but all the components work really well together as
the ultimate treat.
Both food and coffee blew me away. On
top of that, the barista and wait staff wore vibrant smiles. I've already
returned to Devon since my first visit because my experience was that great!
